When you decide you want to play paintball, how do you find a good supplier of paintball equipment and supplies? In this age of Internet shopping, there is no shortage of outlets for paintball equipment. How do you find the best one for you? When you are learning about the game, paintball store employees can be helpful guides to what you need.
What To Look For In A Good Paintball Store In Houston?
When shopping for most things, you want to find a source with a broad selection of quality products, along with low prices and prompt availability. Paintball supplies are no different! You can most likely find a brick-and-mortar paintball shop in your area that may be affiliated with the local paintball field.
When you look around at the selection in most stores, you might feel like the proverbial kid in the candy store. Since paintball is a game that appeals to broad groups of people of all income levels, there is so much equipment available that it can be intimidating for new players. Every category of product from facemasks to guns has so many choices that is tempting to overspend.
Don't Get Carried Away With Purchases
The common wisdom in paintball is to avoid buying equipment until you have tried it out first to see if you like the game. When you go to a paintball field, some basic items are included in the admission fee you pay, while paintballs themselves are usually extra. Once you have tried the sport and decided that you like it enough to play it frequently, you'll probably want to increase your wardrobe of protective gear and then upgrade your weapon, the paintball marker.
Before making a purchase, you can find plenty of information on the Internet about what you should buy and even what type of marker you should start out with. One of the best resources for this type of information is store personnel. Employees of paintball stores tend to be paintball lovers themselves who are more than happy to offer honest assessments of what to buy. A sign of a good store is informative salespeople who will help you purchase items appropriate to your level.
Find A Store You Trust
Many types of retail establishments have a tendency to upsell those who come in to buy basic equipment. While this can happen with paintball equipment too, a good salesperson will not take advantage of you. Why? They know that you are likely to be back if you are treated right.
A customer who is treated well can be a customer for quite a long time to come. First, paintball requires an ongoing supply of ammunition. Second, paintball is a fun hobby with lots of options for equipment upgrades.
The more paintball you play, the better sense you will have of what you want and need. By talking to fellow players, reading about equipment online, and talking further to store personnel, you will know what to get as you constantly upgrade your equipment. While the selection of equipment in a store is important, the personnel who help you are your most valuable asset. They can direct you to the best equipment as your skills improve.
Three Locations For Helpful Paint Store Employees
At the Paintball Store, Inc., you will find an extensive array of equipment in the retail locations on Cyprus Creek Parkway and at the Survival Game of Texas paintball field on Aldine Meadows Road as well as online. Paintball is a game that anyone can learn to play, even if you are new to the game. There are a few basics you should know to get started.
What Is Paintball?
Described as a more challenging, sophisticated version of games like "tag" or "hide and seek," paintball involves two teams of players with the aim of capturing the flag of the other team while keeping your own. Depending on the size of the field, the teams can consist of just a few people on each side or over a thousand opponents. A game may last from 20 to 45 minutes, based on how many people are playing. Besides capturing the flag, there are many other variations of paintball. Before you start to play, you should know the objective of the game you're playing and be familiar with any specific rules.
How Do You Play Paintball?
To prevent opponents from getting the flag, team members use paint guns or markers powered by compressed air to propel pellets filled with paint. While original paintball pellets included lead, current ones are filled with gelatin or oil. The paintballs are brightly colored, non-toxic, water-soluble, non-caustic, and biodegradable. When an opponent strikes you with a paintball, the gelatin pellet splits open and marks you so that you are eliminated from the game. While playing with paint can get messy, spatters wash out of clothes and off your body.
What About Guns?
The markers or paint guns come in a variety of forms that range from pump action to semi-automatic to fully automatic models. While some are more sophisticated than others, all are limited by their power and range so that they cannot shoot at more than a speed of more than 300 feet per second (FPS) or fire a paintball more than about 50 yards. These variables are regulated by international guidelines.
What Are The Larger Goals Of Paintball?
While paintball might have an objective such as capturing a flag, the game promotes teamwork, development of self-confidence, stress relief, and character building. Success is based on savvy decision-making and determination rather than on athletic ability. This makes paintball a game for people of all ages and physical abilities, rather than being something only for young, athletic people.
How Safe Is Paintball?
There is no physical contact in paintball, which makes it a much safer sport than even golf, tennis, swimming, jogging, or contact sports involving balls. Your body may experience some wear and tear if you are crawling around on the ground to avoid the enemy, but otherwise the only thing you will come in contact with in a paintball game is paint.
While the pellets won't hurt you, they can sting if they hit bare skin and a high velocity. For this reason, wearing a long-sleeved shirt and long pants is a good way to dress for paintball. You should also wear gloves on your hands, an athletic cup (for guys), and a mandatory face mask.
The rules of sportsmanship in playing paintball discourage aiming at someone's face, but paint pellets can go awry. A mask protects your face from impact. If it becomes too covered with paint, you should call for a timeout from the referee in order to clean your mask. During this time, it is against the rules for an opponent to shoot you.
Getting Started With Paintball
When you first play paintball, you should go to the field dressed to play. As part of your admission, you will usually be given a facemask and goggles, a gun, and, depending on the park, some additional protective clothing. You will have the option of renting additional equipment at the park when you buy a supply of paintballs.
When you go to the paintball park, the specific rules for the venue will be posted. Once you know the basics, let the games begin!
After playing a few times, you will get a better idea of what you might like in your own equipment. Gear You'll Want To Get
What you will find at Houston's leading paintball store is a full assortment of protective gear, markers, paints, and accessories to make for a great experience. Some of our most popular categories include:
- Masks and eye wear protection. Playing paintball requires excellent vision while you protect your eyes from paint. Investing in a mask that offers a high-end ear, eye, and mouth and teeth protection will keep you safe on the field. On most paintball fields, you must keep your mask on at all times, so buying one that is comfortable is crucial to staying compliant. Having a good mask and goggles is an investment that will last you many years of paintball. Accessories you might want for your mask include an anti-funding fan, case, replacement lenses, lens cleaners, and visors.
- Guns and gun packages. As you become better at paintball, you want a gun or marker that offers the precision and performance you need. Paintball Store, Inc., carries a full selection of products and accessories to enable you to play all forms of the game including wood ball, scenario, MilSim, or speedball (regular paintball.) Once you purchase a gun that meets your needs, you can upgrade it with accessories that increase accuracy, rate of fire, stability, ramping point, and other features you might need, especially if you engage in tournament play. Gun packages often include many of the popular upgrades you need. The store also carries the CO2 and compressed air paintball gun tanks that operate the guns.
- Protective clothing. Some paintball parks provide basic vests for players, but if you play frequently, you may want functional, comfortable clothing to protect you. This will include a vest with storage for pods that hold paintballs, paintball jerseys and pants with integrated padding that enable a good range of motion, while protecting you from falls and run-ins with rocks. Additional elbow and knee pads, and athletic or pelvic supporters protect easily injured areas of the body. An excellent pair of gloves to protect the hands from the ground and from the impact of paintballs are also crucial to good performance.
- Paintballs. The ammunition used in the sport, paintballs, are spherical gelatin capsules, comprised of non-toxic and water-soluble substances, polyethylene glycol, and dyed. The highest quality varieties also include cornstarch and metallic flakes to increase the appearance when they hit their target. Modern paintball manufacturers avoid using oil-based paint and compressed CO2 gas propellant to make them biodegradable, and friendly to the environment and participants. When you need paintballs, you can buy in bulk online or in the retail store. Paintball Store, Inc.
